We are only Human.

It’s Music Monday again! Today I’d like to share a special song with you. Krewella is a band consisting of two sisters Jahan & Yasmine. They usually play electro house and dubstep but this year on the mainstage of Ultra Music Festival, they debuted a ballad.

‘Human’ was a song written for their Krew (fans). On stage, they stated:

“We wrote this song for our fans. When they’re feeling misunderstood and lonely, when they’re feeling pain, shame, unwelcome because of their race, unaccepted because they’re gay, when they’re dealing with addiction, depression, with all that stress, struggle; the feeling of failure is what makes us stronger.”

This is a reminder of what it means to be Human.

As humans, we are not perfect. On the contrary, that was never the intention.

Hindus believe in reincarnation and that each life is a set of lessons or new experiences that we must go through in order to achieve our highest state of being, in order to become a soul that God dwells within. The trees, the plans, even the ants around us are all souls that are living out their earthly experience until they go on to the next. As humans, we must have reincarnated several times before and accumulated some good karma.

To be a human is a gift.

We are capable of so much. Of love, compassion and gratitude. We are also capable of pain, suffering and despair. Ultimately, it is our choice how we choose to live.

Not everyone is perfect, no one is without pain or guilt or fear, but we each make a choice of how we move on with our life. That is why I’d like to remind you how important it is to be empathetic of others.

Think about the people around you. Your family, your co-workers, the delivery guy, your doctor, your electrician. Now remember the strangers. The cashier at the grocery store, The Customer Service Rep that you spoke to yesterday. Every one of them is living out a life of their own with trials and struggles which you may know nothing about.

What you can do for them is to be kind. I remember a barista at a coffee shop once lashed out at me. I asked him if they had honey instead of sugar and that was all it took to trigger his inner demons. As a barista, he dealt with the situation horrible but as a human, he was doing the best he could and that’s what we need to understand. Underneath it all, we are all human. There is no difference.

If you are struggling with something, then I have a simple word of advice: Be Kind to Yourself. As kind as you would be to others. Forgive and be graceful. No one deserves your love more than you. Be gentle and don’t be afraid to ask for help. You will be surprised at how many people are out there that want to help you. I know I do.
